Invocation

“Invocation” is a digital photocollage, and a passionate tribute to human connection, ritual, and tradition. The depiction of male dancers encircling a bonfire symbolizes a joyous celebration of life, peace, and freedom; this celebration exalts the ethereal figures of ancestral women, whose forms can be seen rising in the smoke of the bonfire, symbolizing the spirits of departed mothers and grandmothers remaining near by their living loved ones. The reveling men dance to honor the women in their lives and acknowledge the essential role in lifegiving and nurturing that women play in sustaining their community, just as fire itself has played a vital role in sustaining humanity since the prehistory. “Invocation” highlights the intimacy and beauty of returning to an ancient, gentler, and more natural way of life, closer both to the earth and to each other.
